Goodbye Wellemeyer

Here's somebody we won't be seeing much of this year:

Post-trib.com is running a story on our recent trade of Wellemeyer to the Marlins. There's also some good stuff in there about our rotation. Looks like Dusty is going to take his time (as he should) "ironing out" the four and five spots.

I'm a little late on this one but here's another article to fuel hatred of the White Sox. It makes Dusty look like Ozzie's bitch. Enjoy...

The Cubs have the roster down to 28 guys, and with Dusty taking 11 pitchers, it looks like we've got 3 to cut. For now, it looks like Theriot and Pagan have both made the club. Who are we going to cut from the pitchers? Novoa has been sick, and if we've got options, maybe sending him to AAA would be good. Who else? Koronka has actually been good, Marshall looks to start, etc., etc. That's actually gonna be a tough choice.

Oh, and you know, after all this talk among Cubs fans about how Wood and Prior are just not durable and we should have gone out and got another starter, who's going on the DL and won't be back until at least mid-April? AJ Burnett! That should put him a whole week or two ahead of Kerry Wood.

I still like Novoa, he was sick, but, according to Dusty, he's good to go. I don't know if I completely trust Koronka or if Marshall can sustain his output. Time will tell and I'm sure there will be reasons to curse Dusty in the coming weeks...

I still have absolutely no confidence in Wood and think he should have been dumped. I think Prior's just been unlucky and will come back strong.

I think all the anti-Wood campaigners are going to have to choke down their words when he comes back from his surgery. If I'm wrong, it really doesn't matter, because I certainly won't show my face here.

Novoa hasn't really impressed me yet, but he could come around this year. I think Koronka's spring may have been a fluke, but I think Marshall will probably be a good pitcher. I could easily be wrong about any of these impressions.

Meanwhile... Novoa has been optioned to AAA, for a little while at least. My guess is he's getting an extended spring training due to illness and very strong bullpen. Unless Koronka and others do very well early on this season, I'd expect to see Novoa in May or June, or maybe even late April.
