Zambrano as a pinch runner???

Can someone explain this to me? It worked out cause he scored from first on a Hot-Rod Walker double on the next at-bat. But Zambrano as a pinch runner??? Good work, Z!

who knows...did anyone else see what lead to Z pinch running?

I caught the "highlights" of this one. Adam Greenberg had about the worst possible first major league AB taking a pitch in the back of the head. This one was ugly...he was visibly shaken (for good reason) when he was helped off the field.

It was Z's turn. Greenberg couldn't continue after the beaning. It's not unusual for a starting pitcher to run the bases in an emergency. And Maddux is too old.

Agreed, but Baker should've used Prior rather than Zambrano. Big Z has demonstrated a knack for adventurous belly-flops and slides that risk his continued good health. Besides, I have to think that the leaner Prior is much faster on the basepaths than the 255-pound Venezuelan.

I imagine it went to the guy who shot his hand up first. And noting Prior's history for suffering accidents from odd ball situations, no way would I put him in for something like this.

Zambrano, on the other hand, is a middle linebacker. If he gets hurt, it will only last for a couple of days at most.

If CZ played outfield, they'd line the walls with padding to protect the brick.

Cubs win! Cubs win! Cubs win three in a row! Streaky buggers, ain't they.

D-Lee looked good at the plate today. The drugs must be helping. Some joker on ESPN—who doesn't deserve to be named—thinks our man D-Lee will suffer the biggest drop in baseball during the second half. Come on, D, make him eat those words.

Lee will bat .637 in the second half, with 48 home runs. Just a prediction.

Hey, a note on WGN TV. I've seen enough Cialis commercials now to last a life time, and I can't for the life of me figure out what going barefoot has to do with erectile dysfunction... why are the couples always lounging around the house, barefoot and smiling? The wife should be laying in bed reading a magazine, and the husband sitting on the edge of the bed crying.

Looks like we've got a great new platoon system in the outfield if we need it. Hollandsworth has been hot for a while now, and Murton looks like he's got some fire in him. I think Naranja is making a bid to stay in the big leagues, and I'm in no position to argue with him at this point. Great.

The pitching may finally be coming around, which looks great to me. Aramis is hitting, Derrick looks healthy, Garciapara is scheduled for a return on August 1, Hairston and walker are getting on base, Barrett got his first two-hit game since June 10... things are looking up.

So what will be key to the second half? Continued offensive success from key players: Lee, Ramirez, Walker, Burnitz. And innings from the starting pitching. We'd have a great bull pen, if they only had to pitch two innings in a game. We've got one setup man between them, and Dempster seems to be a dependable, if not awe-inspiring closer. We've got the makings of a good team, now we just have to stay healthy and get hot. Everything is within reach right now, even the Cards, but the Cubs just have to worry about winning one game at a time.

Nothing is faster than a big, sweaty, fiesty Venezuelan. I mean, who would want to get in his way? He's like a freight train.
